Sierra Burgess Is a Loser - Netflix Movie Review
Yeah...so Hi.
I really dropped the ball on here but I guess that comes with age...😅
HOWEVER
I just watched a movie with my siblings and I had to blog about it
I give you Netflix's golden child,
My first Netflix movie review,
Sierra Burgess is a Loser
Also I hope everyone is staying safe and sanitized and healthy
Let me sum up the bases of this movie,
So basically Sierra is a "loser," she little bit on the heavy side and apparently a nerd but at least she has her "token", emotional support black friend Dan (who in my opinion is THE BEST PART of the movie!)
She gets bullied in school by your regular mean girls, one of them named Veronica and one of the other main characters. In a strannnggee forum of bullying, Veronica is approached by Jamie who she considers to be a loser and gives him Sierra's number unbeknownst to Jamie.
Later that night Jamie texts Sierra thinking its Veronica and Sierra is genuinely confused but continues the conversation anyway eventually coming to the conclusion that he definitely thinks she's someone else.
Without me even typing another word I'm sure you can picture where this going...and it is SO weird! My brother and sister and I could not stop laughing! But my nephew confirmed that this really does happen so...ummm...stay alert parents!
Let me list off a few things that happen...
1. They voice chat
Seems harmless right?
But Jamie has already heard what Veronica sounds like and notices that she sounds different on the phone and this is fair cause like I sound like an 8 year old that finished singing The Sound of Music at the top of my lungs when I talk on the phone
Except that Sierra's voice is SO much different than Veronica's...or as Jamie puts its "fuller"
yeah....pretty much calling her voice fat. Which they do address but YEAH NO. Doesn't make that line okay!
So Sierra convinces Jamie that she has a cold so that's why her voice sounds different...
She has a cold.
For over at least a week?!
Yeah NO.
But oh wait, it gets better
2. They video chat
So at this point Sierra has made a deal with Veronica, She'll tutor Veronica to get back her boyfriend in exchange for Veronica helping her out to basically FOOL or excuse me, CATFISH (which I'm pretty sure IS A CRIME!) Jamie.
How they "pull this off" is by putting Veronica on video while Sierra sits behind the laptop and talks while Veronica MOUTHS THE WORDS.
Literally our expressions!
LIKE WHAT THE FUDGE?!
WHAT IS THIS MOVIE???
WHAT ARE THEY TEACHING YOUNG PEOPLE RIGHT NOW??
HOW WAS THIS OKAY'D BY THE PEOPLE MAKING THIS?!
So this doesn't go on for very long. Obviously Veronica's mouth doesn't sync up with Sierra's words as Jamie points out but they're able to convince Jamie that it's a bad connection...
I mean....Jamie can't also be this dumb right?! I mean COME ON MAN! This is like what your 3 - 4 teen movie? You gotta know the tropes by now right? (Jamie is played by Noah Centineo...that's all I'm gonna say, look him up)
Think that's crazy?! HOLD ON TO YOUR BUTTS!
3. They go on a DATE.
sigghhh...
That image should tell you everything.
So by this point Sierra has promised Dan that's she's going to tell Jamie the truth because now they have actually met in person but (Jamie and Sierra) however Sierra pretended to be mute...I just wanna punch this girl in her face...
She makes Veronica go on the the date with Jamie and it goes about as well as you can imagine. Jamie says that Veronica's sounds different, that her voice sounds "skinny"
...
while they watch a movie in a theatre, Sierra sits RIGHT BEHIND THEM! Getting all jealous and everything...
Like YOU did this....
I just don't get young people...
After the movie Jamie and Veronica are out in the parking lot while SIERRA HIDES UNDERNEATH HIS CAR.
URGH.
Oh but wait, it gets SO much better!
When Jamie goes in for the kiss, they force him to close his eyes and SIERRA COMES OUT FROM HIDING AND KISSES HIM!
URGH.
It's was so hard to feel sorry for Jamie at this point because, DUDE...REALLY.
To sum up the end...
Veronica brings Sierra to a party where Veronica does the deed with her ex boyfriend and takes a photo of it and dumps her again right after.
Jamie sees Veronica in the front of the school and kisses her because...DUH. He thinks he's dating her but Sierra sees this and is obviously not too happy. Around the beginning of this whole thing Sierra asked Veronica not to kiss Jamie...so that's that.
Sierra gets all mad, shares the photo of Veronica getting dump by her boyfriend over text at a school game where everyone sees.
Jamie sees and girls come clean to him and obviously he's not happy but of course OBVIOUSLY at the end of the movie he forgives her because of a song she wrote, sent it to Veronica to get her forgiveness and Veronica shares with Jamie.
When he goes to pick her up for prom and talk about EVERYTHING that happened he concludes by saying "she is his type. she is EXACTLY his type"
WELL SHOOT.
I DIDN'T KNOW THEY BOTH WERE INSANE!
I couldn't with this movie but it was probably the most fun I had watching a movie with just my siblings. We could not believe what we were watching on screen and just dying the entire time.
Now I love this kid! Easily the best part of the movie and we all agreed. They couldn't have choosen a better token black friend.
He also reminded so much of my nephew!
Do I recommend this movie?
NO.
Would I watch it again?
HECK NO.
Would I recommend it for a good laugh and a goofy time?
I mean...maybe...

2. Went to Walt Disney World for the first time!
3. I started a new job at Rodeo FX in Montreal, QC (they work on Stranger Things and big name films!)
4. I quit that job.
5. Started a new job at a new VFX studio that does work for kid's TV shows
6. Currently now in quarantine.
7. Re-learning animation
So yeah...I'm barely holding myself together, can't wait to fall asleep at 4:30am! 👍🏾

I'm not gonna do what I did last time and say I'm gonna get back on this because WHO KNOWS?! heck I sure don't!
I just really wanted to talk about this movie cause WOW! what a doozy!
