My third book review! Well I guess...technically my fourth (my last post was two reviews in one).
I have never read a book so fast in my life! It only took me about 3 days to finish! I thought it was going to take me longer because I could not get past the first 3 pages! This book I'm sure without a doubt will be my favourite out of the three, if not then you will surely hear about it in another post.
Lola and the Boy Next Door is the second book of the series from Stephanie Perkins. When I first picked it up at Chapters and read the inside summary I put it down because it didn't grab my attention, I wanted Isla and the Happily Ever more than anything! The only reason I bought it cause it was the second book and I didn't want to cheat and skip a book and the price was TOO good to be true.
You can also read my mini review on Chapters here under the name: Jolene

The book is basically about Lola falling in love with her first love all over again! But with bumps and obstacles along the way cause she has boyfriend and does not want to love again.
This is kinda embarrassing for me to type but what the heck, it's my blog and I decided to be real. I can really relate to this story because I had a childhood friend. He was brother's friend but became mine too. Had good laughs, fun moments like watching a disney movie and the anime Gundam Seed/Gundam Seed Destiny on YTV. Over time I grew to have feels for him but didn't say a word. He started to like and see other people and I never moved on. Lola found someone else but she never truly moved on.
I love the idea of a childhood friend becoming a first love because for me it really does seem like love and that its meant to be. Not only that but I love the trait that she gave Lola. She is fashion designer but not so much fashion as clothes and trend but costumes and fabric which is different and so inspiring and creative. And because Lola is a designer and dresses up its brings up a lot of conflict and arguments about who is Lola.
It's a common occurrence that I usually get annoyed with the main female protagonist and even though I love this book it was no exception. Lola did not get whinny like Anna did but to me she was unfair. It is stated in the book that she was leading Cricket on and taking advantage of him and I could not agree more! It was perfect for Stephanie to put that in there because she must have known that anybody reading the book would think so, I certainly did. But everything that Lola did wrong, everything that I was annoyed with her, she fixed and made right which made me love her and the book even more.

One thing that I really love about Stephanie Perkins female characters is that they aren't average. They are not the girls that want to grow up to be doctors or lawyers or nurses or anything like that and I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that but because they aren't like that it's refreshing, I meant they are creative individuals that know who they are (or eventually find out who they are) and what they want. They are inventors and creative and I love that alot, it inspiries me.
That is why I love this books so much, the story, the characters, the questions that arises, the theme, the fact that she brings Anna and St.Clair from her first book (in case you haven't notice I'm a huge fan on cameos), the things it made me think about, made questions jump in my mind and the fact that the main character had to earn for what she wanted. The girl taking control instead of the other way around.
The book literally has something for everyone, it's not just a story about a boy next door and falling in love but it's also about family and how because your parent(s) are one thing, you'll be that way too. It's about fighting for what you want, being the bigger person, making the right descisions and finding who you are.
5 out of 5 stars.
Sorry this post is so long but I really enjoyed this book. After I was done reading I was thinking they could make this into a movie. I imagine myself directing, Stephanie Perkins on one side and an amazing costume designer on the other. And the soundtrack/OST! Not music from this day an age, well maybe a song or two but music from the 60's and 80's that could really make the movie. And the cast! I wouldn't want someone well known, someone who hasn't been in the spotlight but can act. Almost a Breakfast Club type of thing.
Anyways P.S. I Still Love You came out on Tuesday! I was so excited but unfortunately don't have the money to get it, I'm going to have to wait until my next pay check which gives me time because I haven't started To All The Boys I've Loved Before, I want to finish this series before starting it.
You may have notice a book in the bottom right corner that I have never mentioned, Between The Lines by Jodi Picoult & Samantha Van Leer. I went to Chapters one day and told myself I'm not here to buy a book just to look...IDIOT! I actually saw the companion to this called Off the Page and fell in LOVE! I wanted it so badly but didn't have money for that one so I got the first book instead.
So that's my bookish update, I've also been watching a favourite movie of mine for the past three nights. I'm going to do a post on that so be on the look out.
Again I'm sorry this post was so long but I really enjoyed this book!
Be Blessed!
