La La Land - Movie Review

I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've seen and reviewed a movie so close or rather in award season, go me!

💢 This is your spoiler warning! If you haven't seen it, totally understand. Not all theatres are showing it I believe, so when you can go! For now probably gonna wanna skip this post and go watch Les Miserables instead but if you don't mind spoilers here ya go! 💢

When I first heard about this movie I knew it was gonna have music in there but I didn't really expect it to be a musical and I think that was because I could not picture Emma and Ryan driving this movie through song. Don't get me wrong, I love them as actors and I love them together (Crazy, Stupid, Love) but this movie had me worried...

And in a way I was right.

While watching this movie it was going through my mind that as much as I love these two, they could be replaced. I was trying to picture who and honestly came up with anyone else who has been in a broadway musical or even the other actors they used at the start of the movie because there's a scene that has John Legend in it and he's performing a song that is a mixture of new music pop/R&B and Jazz and he sounds awesome(duh) but the song sounded like that one hit called I Can't Feel My Face but whatever 😑

But then once I really started thinking about it, maybe they aren't suppose to sound good. Emma plays a struggling actress not a singer, Ryan plays a struggling Jazz piano player not a singer. By not having them have flawless voices adds to realism of the movie.

Emma sings this one song as an audition, I think the track is actually called "Audition" and I LOVE it so much! Had it on repeat on youtube for about 48 hours now.

But the music in the movie is AWESOME! Like 5 mins into the movie I was sold! After every song I clapped. Funny enough the guy beside me did too and I turned to him and was like "did we just become best friends?"

...

Okay I didn't ACTUALLY say that because I didn't think of it until now but I did I would have!

I loved the music, I went home to download the soundtrack but didn't have enough money on my iTunes account so I have to wait.

I also love the feel of this movie! It's suppose to be modern but I feel the look of the some of the people didn't feel modern. It was like this weird back and forth between the 60's and now.

The end of movie I was wondering if it was up to your interpretation but after thinking about it over I don't think it was. I think when Emma walked into Ryan's club and he started playing after seeing her, we saw what their life could have been not what it was.

I kinda think about like Barry Allen (The Flash) messing up the timeline and we saw them in a different dimension and what their life was like (or I'm just a nerd who likes musicals). 😜

This movie was so refreshing! It's been awhile since I've watched a movie that one, wasn't a action packed marvel/dc movie, wasn't animated, wasn't based on a true story, and was good.

I tried picturing this movie in black and white and I could, there were moments and I was like, yep! I could totally see movie if it was made 50/30 years ago and I loved that about it.

It wasn't complicated, simple plot but great characters and great music!

It has won 7 Golden Globes and I'm sure it will win more during the Oscars. Don't get me wrong, I love this film but I feel it should only win for best music, score, musical categories cause I think it really excelled in those sections.

But who knows, I believe the tradition is usually whoever wins Best Director wins Best Picture but I don't think that was the case for last year so who knows what will happen this time.

Anywho, really enjoyed this movie. For those that aren't fans of musical most likely won't like this movie, if you only want to watch for Ryan Gosling's abs your going to be very disappointed but I really, really enjoyed it and would recommend it!

Now that I think about it, I really don't think there was much spoilers in this...mmmm...😏

More posts and reviews coming soon!

Blessings!
