Beauty and the Beast (2017) - Movie Review

Wow. Just wow...It's been so long since I've posted on my blog. You guys must have thought I DIED or something!

School is sucking the very life outta me BUT that's not why I'm here!

That's right you read the title correctly! I just saw BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and I wanna talk about it!

Fair spoiler warning!
If you haven't seen it yet, please please please do if you were born in the 90's, if you were born earlier go watch the Disney animated version, then watch the live action THEN come back and read this post. I'll wait.

The bluray copy of Disney's 1991 classic came out a few months before this release and I watched it the other day and all I could say was "the live action is gonna SUUUUCCCKKKKK"

How can you remake perfection? And granted to some people there a few flaws in the animated version but to me perfection isn't perfect. It's the imperfections that make it work.

That may not make a lot of sense or any sense at all but I don't care, I'm sticking with it

First of, the music! If you already love the animated version and love musicals and love broadway then you will adore the music in this film! It really was a musical and funny enough...I actually only liked the song that Beast sings when he lets belle go, "evermore" I thought it was powerful and I did not expect that especially from the actor portraying beast because I have never heard of Dan Stevens until tonight.

Also when ever the towns people chimed in I loved, probably because it sounded EXACTLY like it was from the animated version!

The other songs like Belle and Be our Guest and Beauty and The Beast, etc...

I hate to say and I was worried when I heard about the cast and I was right.

Now Cinderella wasn't a musical so I didn't expect the live action to be a musical and I didn't expect the girl, Lily James, playing Cinderella to sing but she did and in the soundtrack she did. Fine, that was fine and she didn't sound too bad (though in the soundtrack when she sings  "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes," it sounds like she's saying "heart aches" instead of "heart makes")

BUT

Beauty and the Beast is most DEFINITELY A MUSICAL! And don't get me wrong, Emma Waston is great. I didn't see her in the Harry Potter films but I see what she does outside of movies and Hollywood and I think it's inspiring.

HOWEVER that does not exclude the fact that she CANNOT sing! And when it came time for her to sing, it just didn't really sound like it fit like they used autotune a lot to help her sound better.

I think she was good as Belle but would have it bene so hard to fine someone new, someone who would do both act and sing? I'm sure it wouldn't have been hard and I would have waited. Well we would have waited.

She wasn't the only one, I don't think Luke Evan's voice was strong enough for Gaston but I wouldn't have mind if one person's voice wasn't really good but two?!

Speaking of Gaston...

your welcome.

I LOVE HIM! I don't know WHY I liked him so much in the animated version, he was such a jerk! and even more in the film! He was such a a word that I cannot use because I am saved and sanctified.

Amen.

But I loved him more in this film and at the beginning like when he's talking to Belle, offering her flowers and talking about the War, I was actually starting to feel for him. Like he looked genuinely hurt!

BRRRUUH!  But this man became a SAVAGE towards the end! Backhanding Belle's Dad! Shooting beast THREE TIMES!

THREE TIMES!!

The man is ruthless! I was like DDDDAAAMMMMNNNNNN SON!

Until he fell to his death and all was well with the world.

The fight between him and the beast was what I was most looking forward to and I LOVED IT! My favourite scene actually, when beast starts to fight back and stand up I was like YYYYYAAASSSSSS!

The pacing was very weird though. Some scenes I find went by really fast. Like when Belle goes into the west wing. What I loved about Belle and her in that scene in the animated version was that she was curious and loved exploring. In the animated version, she was curious about the west wing, had no idea where she was going or about the surroundings. In this version she was determined and looked like she had been there before! I thought it happened to fast and didn't feel as powerful when the beast scared her away like it did in the 1991 version.

I can't really say much about the other objects like Cogsworth, Lumber and Ms.Potts, and chip because to me they were all just kind there. Don't get me wrong they were there for a reason and help move the movie along but didn't really stick out to me

UNTIL

they died.

Well fully turned into objects,
that HAD ME IN TEARS! I loved it so much I wish I could have saw it in the animated version with the original cast! I'm so broken inside.

Be our Guest did not deliver and I knew it wouldn't. I did not get chills and was actually pretty bummed out about that. They didn't have the chandelier...well pretty sure they didn't. Pretty visuals though

Speaking of visuals...

This movie was overall stunning! I love it! From like the 8 shot I was in love! The visuals for Be our Guest and the Ballroom scene were beautiful! But not enough to really blow my mind or give me chills.

Lets see, is there anything else I'm forgetting to talk about...anything el...

LEFOU!

that idiot.

Idiot but talk about PERFECT CASTING TO A T!

I thought he was amazing actually! Besides some of the visual Lefou was great! He jokes were sometimes the same as the 1991 version but tweaked and tweaked in a way that made SO much sense and so much better! I didn't really get his sudden to turn from the dark side and fight for good because I don't think Lefou would have done that but hey, I'm not director so go figure.

Now about that whole gay controversy thing in the movie...personally for me, and maybe I truly believe it's just me. I didn't really notice until the end. I did do/say a few things here and there but it didn't sound out of character. Or maybe I just missed it cause I watched this movie as my 8 year old self.

But to be fair I think it was that big a deal as people were making it. Maybe I just missed, maybe I just need to watch it again which I really, really, want to.

I still have a problem with the scale when Belle was nursing beat in bed but I guess that's just nitpicking

But other than that

the movie really doesn't bring anything new to the table, other than live action visuals which I certainly believe it delivered on and the some of the music that didn't make it into the 1991 movie but did on broadway was brought in this movie and sounded great in the theatre! So that was definitely a plus!

Honestly your better off just watching the Disney animated version and then seeing this cause lets be honest, you've seen Logan 3 times already and Kong Skull Island isn't as good as you wanted it to be.

There so much more I wanna say but this post gone long enough!

I'm not gonna talk much about school other than I'm in my second term and I'm dyyiiinnng on every level possible. But I'm a good way if possible.

Go see the movie guys, you'll enjoy it!

Thanks for sticking around and continuing to read my posts even if you don't comment or just pass by you guys are awesome!

Blessings!
