Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle - Movie Review

I've missed doing a movie review and thought this would be the perfect one to break the ice.

So I can confirm that this movie definitely has my money as I saw it not once, not twice but THREE times!

At the time I had already seen everything that was out and didn't want to see Star Wars for a third time so I went for this one and I'm glad I did. I was laughing pretty hard when I saw it.

I will admit I have not seen the original classic film with Robin Williams, only clips but from what I've seen it appears they took this movie into a really different direction and I can honestly say had fun with it! Because of it, I want to see the 1995 film even more.

I wish I had seen the original before seeing this because often I would think about how this movie is paying respect to the classic, what are the connections, the Easter eggs, the suttle jokes that only people who had the 1995 film would get and if Robin Williams was still alive, would he enjoy this film.

I did not expect this movie to be as enjoyable as it was! I only saw one trailer and it had me hooked. To be honest I was more excited to see Jack Black in a movie again than the Rock and Hart together again. And what I loved the most was these actors playing the totally opposite of who they are, well with the exception of Kevin Hart cause lets be honest, it was Kevin Hart playing Kevin Hart. I even thought at the times the director had the actor who played the younger/school kid version of him to act more like Kevin Hart so when we do see Hart it wouldn't be so far off in character, for example that scene where he finds the bowling ball in the room, I was like" yep, that's definitely how Kevin Hart would act."

I did enjoy the character dynamics and connections not only between the main older casts but the Younger/school kids as well. If I'm truly honest, I wanted more of them. If we had spent a little more time with them, this movie goer wouldn't have mind one bit.

There is a character I am forgetting and that is Nick Jonas's character. He was fine and worked for for the movie. I have to say I did not expect his older counter part to be played by Colin Hanks, that was a surprise but again I thought was fine.

The VFX were good. As I'm still a junior I feel I can't say too much but I did find some scenes questionable and not as strong as others which I didn't weight to heavy on the movie over all. However, I do wish they spent a little more time and care on the vfx as that was a big part of the original and what made it so great and still holds up, almost in every way, to this day.

The villain...

Let's just move on...

Because let's be honest, if you've seen any game adapted, marvel/DC, action movie in the last 5 years then you know EXACTLY how this villain plays out.

I was talking to a few people at my work place about this movie and their opinions was basically that it's very over the top and I'm not sure how much I agree with that because again, haven't seen the original to compare but that will be rectified soon, but I will agree that some scenes went on a little too long for me.

For example, when Bethany teachers Martha how to flirt. As much as I love Jack Black in this movie and watching him behaving like 16 year old girl was hilarious, that scene was a little too long. But hey, I'm not a movie director so what do I know.

My only issue with the movie is...the time zone.

LIKE WHAT SEASON WHERE THEY IN?! I DON'T GET IT!! YOU HAVE SPENCER IN A RAIN COAT, BETHANY IN ONE SCENE IS WEARING WINTER GLOVES, BUT HAS HER JACKET WIDE OPEN WITH A SKINPY TOP ON, ALEX'S HOUSE WAS FILLED WITH CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS AND THERE IS NO SNOW ON THE GROUND?!

Sorry for the caps, it was just a big issue for me...strange I know and if you didn't notice it before, you certainly will the next time you view it. Your welcome.

But if someone could clear that up for me that was would great!

Other than that I really enjoyed this movie. It was fun and made my interest to see the original go up. I am surprised it did so well, I did not see that coming at all, or The Greatest Showman. Something is changing within the movie going audience and the experience. Can you feel it?

Rating: 3.5\5 ⭐⭐⭐

Any way, super late review but up non the less. I've already started my review for Black Panther and Infinity War which I'm sure no one will care about but I'm gonna continue writing them because I want to and need to get it out of my system. 😁
