Ranma 1/2 Season 3 - Teaser Review
I can't believe I'm doing this... a post about a 1 min. anime teaser
Yep. The teaser trailer just dropped for the new season of Ranma 1/2 and...
You can watch the teaser here to understand the full intent of the gif used above:
Now as someone who has reviewed both seasons, naturally I have a few thoughts.
"but jolene, how can you have thoughts on a 1 min. long teaser that really only shows about 9.8% of the whole season?"
and to that I say,
One thing that we all can take away here is that the animation budget went UPPPPPPPPP!
BRUHHH!
Not even I can deny that! I was screaming BUDGET the entire time! The animation does feel more fluid which I like but I feel the action scene does kinda fall into the trap that I stated in my Ranma 1/2 Season 2 review, where the animation feels overly squashed and noodled (again, the only word I can think of that I think best describes what I mean 😅)
Now another thing you might have noticed is that it looks and feels different...like SO much different from the previous seasons
| previous seasons |
| season 3 |
and I don't think it's just because the budget went up so they're able to add more details, refine some shadows things like that but when you watch the trailer it feels so dark and moody. Basically it looks and feels like a shonen show! like along the lines of Bleach, One Piece, Naruto, etc (geez, does that show my age or what!)
It actually feels like the perfect art direction for...oh gosh...I can't believe I'm about to say this...
an Inuyasha remake...
I do miss the cozy feel from the previous seasons but I won't say no to more detail and more fluid animation ☺️
But I have come to two possible conclusions for the reason of this drastic change...humor me
1. this is a stunt to get more boys to watch the show 👀
- I think safe to say more girls watch the show. If not the original anime, then definitely this remake. I'm apart of two different discords and barely anyone, let alone someone of the opposite sex, knows of Ranma 1/2 or has seen it.
I might be wrong here and correct me if I am but I feel the first 2 seasons, at least in tone and feel, seemed to be geared more towards a female audience so I think this is way to break away from that and get the boys onboard
2. they know what their doing 😏
- what I mean by that is...is that it's Ranma 1/2, it's a martial arts comedy. This is what they do! Of course this teaser is going to be super serious and hard-core only for the jokes and comedic moments the break those moments of tension. I mean the last thing we see in the teaser is Akane throwing a giant bolder all exaggeratedly animated across a small stream!
This is just part of Ranma 1/2 charm and why it's so loved. You can never really take it seriously like the teaser is suggesting.
At the end of the day, I am just SO HAPPY! And So excited!!! we're getting another season of ranma 1/2! I was scared that after the second season, it may get chopped. Netflix (and Disney+ actually) doesn't have a good track record of keeping original/remake shows after 1 or 2 seasons so this news brings me so much JOY!
I really hope they are able to cover most, if not the entire series! I would be able to die happily. If they do, I hope...I PRAY they skip over this character I absolutely LOATHE.
YEP.
I hate this character, this teacher, this caricature so much!
I hated him in the manga and hated him in the anime. But I know he's kinda unavoidable because he a part of several arcs for the main characters so...sigggghhhhhh.....
Anyway...will cross that bridge IF...WHEN we get there!
