Spider-Man: Brand New Day - Trailer Review
Yeah I have to...cause I just have too!
I don't think i've ever mentioned this here but Spider-Man 2 (2004) is my favorite superhero movie of all time! I know that movie like the back of my hand, i have almost every line and every music cue memorized!
The movie is ENGRAINED into my brain okay!
everything about the movie is perfect to me! every shot, every cut, every decision ever made! And the Raimi Cut, or the 2.1 edition?!
OH, what's that? You didn't know about the 2.1 cut of Spider-Man 2?
Go find it, go watch it and thank me later!
I love the Raimi Spider-Man Trilogy, YES even Spider-Man 3 and i'm tried of hiding it! That trailer was the first one i ever remember being so obsessed with! And in grade school!
I played that trailer religiously in school!
But anyways, I bring all that up to say when it came to the MCU Spider-Man...I wasn't a fan.
Like he was fun, but the blood wasn't pumping in my veins when i watched the trailers or sat down and watched the solo movies or when he popped up in the other MCU movies. Or even when my mom bought me the second movie...Spider-Man: Far From Home...I think or No Way Home...I DON'T KNOW! The titles are dumb. Anyway, she bought me the blu-ray for christmas and i had to act excited because i just didn't want it (sorry mom, I love you 😙 don't worry, i still have and appreciate it!)
Out of all the MCU Spider-Man moments, there is only ONE, ONE! That I can say I really liked. Heck i even have it on my phone! It's the scene in the last movie, Back From Home...No Way Home..I DON'T KNOOOWWWWW, IT'S DUMB!
It's when Peter goes to see Mj at the shop and she doesn't know who he is.
Can you believe it?! In a movie that has...
GREEN GOBLIN FROM RAIMI'S SPIDER-MAN
DOC OCK FROM RAIMI'S SPIDER-MAN
| i think this shot is badass by the way |
JJ FROM RAIMI'S SPIDER-MAN
AND TOBEY AS SPIDER-MAN FROM RAIMI'S SPIDER-MAN...??!!
AND THIS...!
THIS IS THE MOMENT THAT GETS ME?!
And i think that because they were setting up Peter to be the Spider-Man that most of us remember or like to see him as...unhappy, alone, broke and full of possibilities and responsibility.
No more MCU gadgets or magic. The next movie is the one we're waiting for.
This comes out in July by the way, and we're just getting a trailer NOW!!!!!!
Honestly, I think it's because all the on set photography did all the heavy lifting
Like when I tell you they did the heavy lifting, THEY DID THE HEAVY LIFTING!
like...BRUHH
They tried a new thing where yesterday (well at the time this post goes up) they released short clip by short clip of the trailer and i'll be honest, it's different but i hated it. It didn't make me excited & nothing made sense and i was more annoyed than anything.
I miss the days when it was just 2-3 trailers and that's it. No teasers, no teaser for the teaser. And no...whatever this was.
Anyway they FINALLY released the trailer today and OH HECK! Do i have thoughts!
Geeezzz that took me awhile to get here, sorry about that 😅
Here's the trailer:
LOOK/TONE
This feels and look so much different from the previous ones and i'm here for it! give me more! It does kinda feel like The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (i'm not the only one who sees that, right?)
Its different, feels more grittier and darker than the previous ones which i like, i just hope it's not too, too dark.
But i have to say, i LOVE the more grounded elements! Like Peter Parker in...Uni I believe? Talking to Bruce Banner?!
BRUUUHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
I live for these scenes so much! It's really all i want!
Gosh Bruce is giving me Kurt Conners vibes here!
I'm not...sold on the overall look. I get that movie is suppose to be more serious and grown up but there's something about the colors and lighting i'm not fond of. I can't quite put my finger on it, i don't know if it's reminding me of a depressing Netflix YA movie/show or something like that but it just feels off.
The cinematographer is Brett Pawlak and, by his resume, has never done a superhero movie, at least not on this scale, so as much as I don't like the overall look, i can appreciate that they're doing something different than before and i gotta give that to them
One thing also! this is a more mature, grown up Spider-Man. The director and tone is different but the composer is still the same, Michael Giacchino. Not to say he doesn't have the chops, because who am i?!, but i just hope it doesn't look like a new spidey but sounds like the same old one, you know?
VILLAINS/STORY
i don't know WHY i added this part in here cause... I HAVE NO IDEA!
The only villains i recognize is The Punisher (only because twitter told me). I've never seen the show but people said it was good and the guy playing the lead is great. The Punisher is not my thing but happy to see him in here. I just PRAYYYYY he's not a repeat of the Rhino from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 where we barely get anything of him, he hold no weight to the story and we only see him at the beginning and end of the movie.
If i'm right about this, remember you read it here first!
SIDE NOTE!
it's crazy how all the photos i've used so far look like they could be from the same movie
You should see my downloads folder!
I love that we have scorpion back! And he looks so good! like outta the Spider-man game!
I have NO IDEA who these guys are (apparently they're called The Hand?) but excited to learn more about them! You just know Destin (the director) is gonna do them justice!
I have NO IDEA what's happening here!
It seems like the same power of that dude from Kraven (2024)
You know? that Sony Spider-Man spin-off movie that nobody watched (except me) and failed spectacularly
I know it's not! It's really different but it's just the first thing that came to my mind when i saw it 😅
Now aside from the villains...I can't get a read on the story and that's totally cool! i love going into a movie and only knowing 3% of the story!
That probably sounded sarcastic but it really wasn't!
I am concerned but that maybe it might be too much, like i hope the movie isn't too packed. Between the street thugs, the new main bad (which i think is the dudes in red), Banner and school, his old friends, and now performance issues? (I'm referring to his powers!) I just hope they don't bite off more than they can chew
That also doesn't include whatever they aren't showing us 👀
I have a hunch! And remember you heard it hear first! I have a feeling...
We're gonna see Shang-Chi in here 😏
| MA BOY |
We haven't seen him SINCE his debut movie and that's a damn shame because his movie was honestly, in my opinion, the best out of whatever phase he was apart of. A lot of people seem to agree and the fact that we haven't seen him since is criminal.
The director of Shang-Chi is the same director for this new Spider-Man movie, Destin Daniel Cretton, so it would be so poetic, so delicious! for him to fit Shang in this movie somewhere
FINAL THOUGHTS
I am worried that they might be paying homage/repeating some previous Spider-Man moments too much.
Like shot where he gets hit with the truck, we've seen that already...in The Amazing Spider- Man 2
Spidey receiving the Key to the city, we've seen that already... in Spider-Man 3
shot is way different but the concept is the same!
The power issue thing, we've seen that already... in Spider-Man 2
Gosh i hope it's not a performance thing because there is NO way they can do it better than Raimi!
Small little worries and again this only THE FIRST trailer/teaser so i could be (and mostly likely will) be 100% wrong about ALL of this!
All I know for sure is that for once, i am TRULY excited for an MCU Spider-Man movie! and I've never felt that way before
Spider-Man: Brand New Day (I HATE THE TITLE NAMEEEESSS!),
Would love to know if you guys are equally excited? Are you not? Was there something i got COMPLETELY wrong (I always do!)
Would love to hear from you! 🕸
