Transformers: The Last Knight - Movie Review
Yep I saw this movie, I am one of the very few that saw this movie and one out of the handful that...didn't mind it
SPOILER!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARN, THERE WILL BE SPOILERS...well...nothing major...I don't think...
Yes I saw this movie and honestly...some part of me doesn't regret it. I got to see a Transformers movie on the big screen, I wish it was the first one but oh well...can't cry over Bay's explosions...
The only transformer movies I've seen is the first one, I believe I saw the third one (dark of the moon I think) I was really hyped for that one because Optimus said a really cool line in the trailer and I was all like "BRRRRUUUUUHHHHHH! You don't mess with the PRIMES!"
....but truthfully, I only remember the last fight sequence with Prime, Sentinel and Megatron.
Now I do wanna say my opinion about one of the issues regrading Bay's Transformer films...
I get it. They are not the best movies or movies regrading toys in general and the Transformers do deserve better BUT you can NOT DENY how VISUALLY AWESOME the movies are!
I can't. When I first saw the first Transformers movie it was on TV and I don't mean like DVD/Blu-ray on TV I mean TV movie on TV, and that did not do it justice. But even still, watching it on TV looked awesome!
Just watching the visuals, no matter what crazy, earth threating thing is going on makes me believe THAT IT IS REAL! So to have amazing visuals accompanied by some of the original voice casting?!
HECK YA!
I mean, when I hear Prime talk and standing all cool like,
"Don't you know know who I am? I'm Optimus Prime!" (people who have seen the movie get that reference)
I just goosebumps every time. Like everything time I hear Batman talk in the Arkham games...beautiful.
Anyway off track here!
Now what I liked about the movie,
I liked the Transformers.
What I didn't like,
The humans.
Yep...pretty much it.
Okay, serious talks...I did like the Transformers. They were my favourite part and as they should be (it is their movie). Except for Megatron, I didn't see Age of Extinction so I don't know if Megatron was in there or if he got a new look, but I did not like the way he looked or him in general in this film. I would like to see Megatron take front stage and since he already did, I don't want to see him as some other bad guy's play thing. If your going to do that have it for the ULTIMATE bad guy and not every small baddie that comes along every movie.
His design in this movie I thought was kinda weird. He almost looked liked one of the twelve knights from the beginning of the film. Honestly I thought it was a different character until they said Megatron and I'm like "wwwhhhaaattt????"
I did like how one side of this face was red and the other side of Optimus face was red when he turned bad. It's little things like that, that I appreciate.
There was also a Japanese Transformers, a John Goodman smoking one (how is that even possible), and it's seamed like a black one from the streets.
People were laughing, I thought that was going a little too far.
I just really enjoy seeing the Transformers on screen. It's like when I watch the Planet of the Apes movies, I want the other species to win because humans are just so dumb and I can't relate to them at all and the ones that I do, their on the other species side!
Speaking of the humans,
I couldn't stand any of them! well... I guess except for Sir. Anthony Hopkins and maybe a little of Mark Wahlberg's character.
I noticed a trend that these movies are having with well established actors acting as the mentor or the old guy with a lot of wisdom cooped up inside. Like Hopkins character in this movie and Crowe's character in The Mummy....same!
He did have some lines where he was suppose to be funny, the audience laugh. I didn't really get it so I don't know what that says about me or the audience...
I liked Mark's character when he had funny dialogue between the Transformers. To me, I found that more believable than when he was talking that one girl who is also the key or the young girl he takes under his wing after one question or even Josh's government character, which I still liked.
Speaking of the girls now...
you see that girl right there looking all badass and such...
her
She was unexpected. I did not expect her to be the foul mouth, i guess independent girl I thought she be. In every shot she seemed perfectly, perfect. Like I'm talking tan, makeup, shinny and everything. Too much for a 14 yr old in my opinion but hey it's 2017, 14 yrs look 21 and me, 23 look like I'm 14 so...
I didn't really get her part. I wasn't sure if she was an important character or not. You see her first in the film before Mark and she does have a moment that you saw in trailer where she's with a transformer that dies so it does seem like she might be an important character but then there's this dialogue between her and the other kids, moreover the kid with glasses hitting on her. It was just so weird! And then she was gone during the second act and then makes her way into the third and I'm asking "WHY ARE YOU HERE???" She even says why is she there and that it was a bad idea...
and then the "key"
Again she reminded of the girl from the mummy but with a purpose. Bay apparently likes to sexualize his female characters in his films and awhile in this movie wasn't too bad...there were still times, at least in my opinion I thought were unnecessary. Like she's supposed to be the smart one, and apparently being smart means you were glasses. She's does, in ONE shot of the film! makes no sense! Even if she's wearing contacts those things would have fell out long time during all the stuff she goes through in the film! Plus multiple times throughout the film she says "it's not possible, it's real, etc" GIRL! You live in a world with walking, talking, transforming, alien ROBOTS! WAKE UP!
I wanted to say that to the whole world in this movie! At the beginning of the film, you believe that this world has finally come to conclusion that alien robots live among then, good and bad and need to be on their toes...
BUT then you have some people playing polo and going to college!
....
where was I....
oh right the girl...this post is going pretty long so let me just sum up really quick...
her dialogue between her and Mark were cringe worthy and the only thing I liked that she did was when she decided not to leave the bee hive looking Cybertron and fight...sorta.
I don't think the movie is as bad as people are making it out to be. The humour definitely sucks, only a very few are actually funny, the human cast is at times bearable and the Transformers are visually awwweeessoommme, the last act is okay. Like when you see Prime make his entrance when some people said that he didn't make it, DO YOU KNOW WHO HE IS? HE'S OPTIMUS PRIME!
I also did like the score for the last act, it's what you heard in the trailer and I don't know I have a sweet spot for when songs/music is used in the trailer its in the movie.
The line "no sacrifice no victory" is said a lot throughout film which I liked, a nod back to the first film and I personally REALLY like that line.

Personally, I think you should go see this movie on the screen, just for the visuals and the escape BUT beware, doing that comes with a price and that price is $18.50 with tax, more if buying food, cringe worthy humour, kids swearing, weird changes in the aspect ratio (not talking Nolan aspect ratio kinda changes, I mean aspect ratio changes where it DOES NOT MAKE SENSE!) side characters that makes no sense and have no purpose, characters dry when they should be soaking set, and probably kids under 16 clapping their hands during the entire movie...
yeah that happened to me...
Baby Driver comes out next week and I really wanna see that cause I like Jamie Foxx, Lily James and Kevin Spacey. Plus I'm excited to see a movie that's not a part of a franchise, or superhero like in any way.
Hope fully I'll have time cause...TERM 3 IS OVER!
Yep! Next week I move into the studio to focus more on my demo reel!
There's a lot I have to say about that and I will...in a post! So look out for that and be blessed guys!
