Wonder Woman (2017) - Movie Review

YES! I am on a roll here! This is how you know I'm slacking in my studies though

SPOILER WARNING NOW IN EFFECT!

I just came back from the theatre and my head hurts and my vision is blurry...I don't think that's a good sign but I have to get this movie outta my system!

Now put up your hand if you weren't holding your breath for this movie either to, 1.be good or 2.to finally happen cause I think I heard this movie has been in development for YEARS!!!

If you didn't put up your hand for either, A LIE YOU TELLING!

This movie was good! I really, really liked it! And I also really liked the soundtrack! Which is odd for me cause I don't usually like the sound the first time I hear it in the theatres because it's just something I tone out for a weird reason but this movie!

Bruh if it wasn't for the two grown ladies beside me, I would have been in tears. Yep, still broken inside.

I think I know as much about Wonder Woman as a 23 year old who grew up on Disney and religion would know. Well...maybe a little more.

So again I don't know how much this movie is faithfully to the comics and character but from what I do know, it was. And from what I read it actually pays respect to all (if not most) of the comics that dealt with her beginnings.

Speaking of the beginning, it was SO beautiful! GORGEOUS! I wanted to BE there! It was lush and bright and SATURATED! Yes, there is COLOR in this movie!

I absolutely LOVED the beginning, I love seeing where it all began...Themyscira. I don't know maybe I'm a suck up for beginnings like that. Let's take a look back...

Man of Steel,

while not bright like WW, I think most people can say that the Krypton scenes were pretty cool. Honestly my favourite shot of the movie.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice,

Considered one of the strongest, if not the strongest part of the movie

All beginning sequences in the DCEU, loved! Maybe even a little more than Marvel...

Not only that but it was so great seeing women in action! I don't know what I love about seeing woman kick ass in movies, especially in superhero movies. And this movie, the women just look beautiful! I don't care if this makes me sound weird, they were beautiful in all their slow-mo, bow firing, leap and flip glory!

Now I know some people didn't like the slow motion and I understand that but I love it! I'm kinda tired of seeing fast paced, 100 cuts for one fight scene. This movie slows it down, very slow so you can take it in.

It was like yeah you've seen Black Widow kick ass, but have you seen her kick ass in slow motion? Didn't think so.

I wanted more of the beginning, I really did. I knew it would eventually lead to the real world which was all mono tone and depressing really, thank goodness for the humour!

The humour! OMG! Honestly, thank goodness for it and it was great. There's something I love about watching a movie with a full house, if you haven't yet, do it. It's an experience.

Chris Pine was hilarious, Lucy Davis and even Gal Gadot herself they all played really nicely together! When Diana gets to London and trying to adapt to the new change it reminded me of Starfire from Teen Titans, especially the scene where she eats Ice Cream for the first time!

Gold!

When I say thank goodness for humour it's because this movie got gradually darker, and when you think about it, it could represent Diana's view on the world and on man. When at home she's young, naive compared to some and it's not her fault really, curious and so sure of what she has to do and what man is like.

When she get's to London and is finally among men, she still understands her purpose and what she has to do but in a way clouded and little influenced by the world.

And then when the movie gets REALLY dark, she is completely consumed with rage and finally understands why man is the way they are and why they do what they do.

And personally, I loved seeing that about her. She was so sure what she had to do and did it only for it to not have the impact she thought it would. It was great to see her come to that conclusion.

And seeing this really made me appreciate her role in BVS more. By watching this movie I understand even more now when she says that man made a world where standing together is impossible and even when Bruce says Man is still good, I get that now. I did before but now in this movie, it means so much more.

Now lets talk a little more about the actors,

Now I know Gal Gadot was not the first choice for...most people to be Wonder Woman. She is tiny. She is! And to me while not as tiny as she was before and appreciate the work she put in, I still find her tiny but I have to remember it's not a perfect world.

My superheroes can't look like this

No matter how much I want them too and I should be use to this by now...let me show you

I know your thinking he's angled that doesn't count but trust me, he's tiny...

Yep, Marvel is guilty of this too and what sucks about this one is that we've seen a buff Spiderman. Well bigger than this one at least.

Okay off topic here, where was I...

If this was the first time we saw her then maybe I would change my mind and say she'll put on more in the upcoming movies but we've seen her in other movies and she not that different.

Now...

Again...your welcome.

As always this man is beautiful and hilarious! But I already knew that so to me really was nothing that surprising about his character except for how much he cared. He's a spy in the movie and I didn't expect for him to make the kind of decisions he does in the movie. At the end of the movie he sacrificed himself to destroy the poison that would kill thousands and I really liked that. But I also was really sad to see him go so early. Another scene that reminded me of Captain America :The First Avenger.

There was just one thing I did not like about his character...and that was the romance between him and Diana. I like the flirting and kinda wish it stayed there. I didn't think there was a need for them to hook up and or even for him to say those 3 words, giving Diana the watch should have just been it. To me that was saying it without saying it. I was talking to a good friend about it and we both agreed that comic book movies do not handle romance well.

The villain now! Again you think it's one person but in the end it reveals to be the person they trusted. Classic, and worked for this movie. I really like how he transform at the end to reveal who he REALLY was, that was great. I guess I could say I didn't expect that because everything seemed so grounded, if that's the word, even with Diana there it all seemed real. So when Ares started to transform and use his powers, it was a nice treat.

I really enjoyed this movie, because if it I have a new respect for origin movies and why we need them. Because of that I want to rewatch Captain American:TFA and even BVS.

This movie was really enjoyable and the DCEU movie that DC needs but doesn't deserve (if you've seen the movie hopefully you caught that and hopefully it was funny)

I recommend it but not in 3D, the 3D is really only necessary for the beginning and that's it. But still go see it.

I'm hoping my next post won't be a review but hey you never know.

Be Blessed!
