It (2017) - Movie Review

I bet you guys thought I died, yea you did don't lie 😏

I've seen this movie twice now and I really wanna review it

Warning this review will be filled with spoilers but COME ON! It's been like 4 weeks now, you know you've seen it already or at least watched a review or two on youtube about it, or read the book or had something spoiled for you already

Okay so far warning, I haven't read the book, was going to but DAMN! the book is over a thousand pages...no just no, ain't nobody got time for that right now! and also I've never seen a horror/scary movie in the theatres before so this was a first for me.

I did not give a damn about this movie until I saw that last trailer in the theatre and it had me hooked! I knew I wanted to see this movie, either the Thursday or Friday but I didn't wanna see it alone, absolutely not! The only other horror movie I've seen was The Conjuring but that was at a sleepover and...I don't really remember it...

I saw it the Thursday night, early screening with a group of people from my class and a packed theatre...(I have SO much to say about theatre etiquette but I'll leave that for another time) the moment the movie started I knew I made a mistake, I WANTED TO LEAVE! I told the guy beside me I wanted to go home, I couldn't handle it! My face was covered for at least 87% of the movie!

Watching it the second time around made me realize I was just being extra and being a baby because I was laughing more than usual and I actually cried.

But ANYWAYS! enough about me! It.

I loved the kids in the movie! I thought they all did an amazing job! I heard the next part of the movie will centre around the kids when they are older and that just makes me sad that we won't see them together like this again kicking Pennywise's ass!

They were a groups of friends I want, you got the classic joker, the brave one, the smart one, the shelter one, the street smart one and the girl who is just one of the guys (if you've seen the movie I'll leave it up to you to decide which kid goes for which description).

Although I will say that "fairytale kiss scene" kinda took me out of the movie for a sec, all I could hear in my head when I saw that was the song that plays when Prince Charming wakes up Snow White at the end of the movie. That didn't hurt the movie I just thought it kinda funny

The swearing was kinda much for me, but the acting over all was just great, it's like I couldn't believe they were kids playing kids if that makes sense. Like the actor who plays Bill with the stutter?! So good! and the kid who plays Georgie?! So cute but also so creepy at the same time!! They all made me feel sad, they made me feel like I could be one of the pack, I just loved their chemistry together. My only problem is that I thought the kid who played Mike was  over acting, just a little, I thought it was too good and he was over doing it. But in the movie he is shown at the beginning and then kinda...disappears for awhile so I guess he had to do the best he could with what we see of him which is less screen time than all the other kids

The setting it self was really good too. From what I heard the scene with the house where Pennywise was currently taking refuge was filmed in Oshawa, ON and some other locations in Ontario!!What what!! Close to home!

Okay...

The clown,

This thing scared the LIVING life out of me!! There was only thing that bothered me and was wondering how that works. If anyone knows please let me know!

At the beginning of the movie when he's talking to Georgie he has blue eyes, and then they turn that yellow/orange glow colour that we know but we never see those blue eyes again.

I thought that maybe when he's talking to the kids their blue and when he's ready to pounce and kill they go orange but that wasn't the case since they stay orange/yellow glow for the rest of the movie

anyone notice how those three photos has Pennywise centred in the shot? jus thought I would point that out 😅

I wasn't really sure what I was gonna get with Pennywise. Yeah I saw the trailer and see horrific, demonic teeth in his mouth but I honestly thought that it was gonna end there BUT OOOOOO! how I was wrong! Anyone who read the book and...I think maybe the mini series know that Pennywise is SO much more! This thing is NOT of God!!! He is terrifying! Even watching it for the second time knowing when he was gonna pop up, especially the projection scene, is still scary!

Like this thing will pop, bend, appear, out of nowhere

Personally I like the scenes more when he didn't transform into the being that he really is, I guess you could say I was more interested in the actor than the CGI, speaking of which the VFXs are awesome in the movie! I'm not sure how much VFX goes into the average horror movie but you can clearly see the all the money and care went into scenes where Pennywise transforms to make it almost seamless from real to CG !

But back to the performance, every time Pennywise is on screen he's centre stage and it's just because he's the title character. He's strange. It's mannerisms, wondering what it might do or say next, to me it's weirdly fascinating (I have notice that I have this weird interest in things that are strange and creepy like Hitchcock's Norman Bates from Psycho, Bamtan's Joker, Spiderman's Carnage and now King's It...I wonder if this makes me a psychopath...) Also the fact that he doesn't blink and drools everywhere is oddly distracting, whenever his mouth was open I was like "NO! STOP! you wipe your mouth! WIPE IT!"

As someone who didn't read the book or watch the mini series I was confused on how he...works I guess. Because one kid sees an ugly lady from a portrait, another kid see's his dead brother and then another kid sees a diseased walking looking zombie so it made me think that Pennywise was kinda like main badie pulling all the strings and all those other things were working for him but eventually I understood that he was taking the form of the thing that scared the kids the most which made me wonder if he was real, what would he turn into for me, what scares me the most

Basically what I'm getting down to it is that, the performance is great, Pennywise is scary as heck and personally I wanted more of him

I do have so many questions, like the purpose of the read balloon, the deal with the adults, how come the music used in the trailer wasn't used in the movie (yeah I know that doesn't usually happen but it seemed to work so well!) why 27 years or so does Pennywise appear, questions that I think the book could answer but again...OVER A 1000 PAGES! and from what I heard that book is rated NC -17 !

If you're wondering, yes I heard about the end scene in the book with the girl and the  boys of thel club that didn't make it into the movie and I refuse to comment on that because I wonder how someone can be that sick to write something like that! and with kids no less!

And with that I thought the movie was good, I thought the acting from the kids and Pennywise himself were great, the VFX are well done it had me scared so as a horror movie I think it did its job. Recommend!

I didn't want my next post to be a movie review but I just had to get this movie out of my system. I'm more than half way through Term 5 now of school now and it's crazy. My demo reel is causing me more problems than I imagined and my instructors too, strange considering that the idea is literally so simple... I've shown literally nothing about it on my social media sites. Not even my parents know, only two people outside my school knows and because I want to keep it a secret, a surprise when I'm finished. I can't wait to be done with it, I can't wait to show it, Oh I just can't wait!

Stay blessed guys!
